  • A clear talent and demonstrated high potential
  • Imaginative ideas and a positive energy
  • A depth of humor, warmth, and humility in the workplace
  • Readiness to share space with other talented team members

Gaps

Promising leaders also have gaps, such as:

  • They don’t feel comfortable ‘on stage.’ These individuals often hold back in expressing their opinions during key meetings, struggling to speak their minds. As a result, the quality of their work doesn’t yet reflect their potential to be seen as leaders.
  • They haven’t built trust with other key players. While they excel within their immediate teams, they may find it challenging to reach out and build relationships beyond their familiar circles. This lack of connection within the organization’s key stakeholders can hinder their visibility and recognition as leaders.
  • They aren’t applying their talent. Recognized for their particular skills or strengths, these individuals have the potential to be great assets. However, they haven’t yet demonstrated their capabilities consistently enough to be viewed as leaders in their areas of expertise.
  • They are being asked to transition into a new role. Having performed well in their previous roles, they now face the challenge of adapting to new responsibilities due to reorganization. Whether it’s transitioning to a new functional area or managing a significantly larger team, they may feel overwhelmed by these new demands.
